Royal Charter

The BBC is established under a Royal Charter. The current Charter came into force in 2007 and runs until the end of 2016. It explicitly recognises the BBC's editorial independence and sets out its public purposes.
BBC Trust

Under the new Charter, the BBC is governed by the BBC Trust, which sets the strategic direction of the BBC and has a clear duty to represent the interests of licence fee payers. The Trust sets purpose remits, issues service licences and holds the Executive Board to account for its performance in delivering BBC services.

The Trust works closely with national Audience Councils in order to understand the needs and concerns of audiences.
Executive Board

Operational responsibility rests with the Executive Board. It is responsible for delivering the BBC's services and running the organisation in accordance with the overall strategy set by the Trust.

Aaj Tak is a 24-hour Hindi news television channel run by TV Today Network Ltd. Aaj Tak loosely translates as "Till Today" or "Up to the Minute". Watched by some 45 million viewers in India’s cable and satellite universe, Aaj Tak is India’s largest privately owned news channel. Aaj Tak is a free-to-air channel in India, while it is being offered as a pay channel in the overseas market. In the United States, it is available on EchoStar’s DISH Network.

Despite serving Infotainment, Aaj Tak has been awarded Indian Television Academy’s Best News Channel award for six consecutive years. In a recent BBC/Reuters/Media Center Poll, Aaj Tak was voted the most trusted and most important news source in India surpassing even the Government sponsored channel Doordarshan and expansively beating news sources like Star News,Dainik Jagran, Sun TV, NDTV, AIR (All India Radio) and The Times of India.

STAR News is the Hindi language news channel of STAR TV. The channel presents a mix of rolling news bulletins and specialised shows covering topics from crime to Cricket. They also broadcast a TV Guide for STAR Plus, STAR News and Channel [V] India.

History

When STAR News launched in 1998, it was at first a Bilingual English/Hindi News Service, and was initially run in partnership with NDTV. But when the agreement, with the NDTV expired, STAR News was transformed into a Hindi news service.

STAR News has stirred up frequent controversy by broadcasting "pseudo"-sensational and often exaggerated reports of events in India. Most of the programming and bulletins on the channel are highly opinionated. Star News is a good example of tabloid television.

Sky News is a rolling TV news channel providing 24 hour news coverage including the latest breaking news. Currently broadcasting from a state of the art news centre in London, the channel provides domestic and international coverage to audiences in the UK as well as around the globe. Sky News started broadcasting on 5 February 1989 as part of the then four-channel Sky Television service.Sky News provides an hourly news radio service to multiple radio networks in the UK. Although the station is targeted at the UK and Ireland, it is carried around the world on a number of services, particularly being favoured by ex-patriots who want to keep up-to-date with the latest news from home. The channel currently has seven UK bases each with their own correspondents, but the channel can also call upon a wide range of resources and global bureaux provided by its parent company NewsCorp.

Sky News has built its schedule around the main, highly experienced anchors with appointment to view broadcasts regularly being supplemented by landmark broadcasts. When major breaking news reaches the channel, it has more recently started to revert to the old double-headed style with two presenters anchoring. Sky News is famous for its innovations in news broadcasting and regularly wins awards for this and also for its broadcasting in general.

Sky News has started to revamp its graphics almost every year, with the latest revamp being revealed at 6am on 3rd April 2008. The latest look, which appears to be inspired by CNN International, has fewer on screen graphics and a more minimalist style.
