Chutti TV, launched by Sun TV network on 29th April 2007, targets tamil kids all over the world. This channel is the first of its kind 24 hours channel from the Sun TV Network targeting children in the age group 2 to 14, with regional and international flavor. The shows are designed to engage and educate children throughout the day. It has lined up shows such as `Chutti Yoga` in the morning and then a dance show called `Rumbumbum`. STAR Plus' programming primarily consists of family dramas which mainly boast female protagonists and mother-in-law and daughter-in-law relationships in joint families. The channel is also known for bringing in a revolution in the Indian television world with new shows in the year 2000. The channel has been India's No. 1 cable channel for the last seven years, reaching more than 50 million viewers every week.
When it was first launched in 1991, STAR Plus was an English language television channel showing international content from the U.S., the UK and Australia, with Zee TV being the Hindi language channel. However, after STAR (subsequently acquired by News Corporation) ended its relationship with Zee TV, STAR Plus was transformed into a 24 hour Hindi language channel, with STAR World becoming the network's English language channel. But competitors like Sony Entertainment Television and Zee TV were in the lead, and STAR Plus struggled to survive with shows like Kora Kagaz.

In 2000, the company's CEO Sameer Nair and programming chief Tarun Katial introduced a number of new shows, catapulting the channel to its current number one position.

Zee TV was founded by Subhash Chandra and launched in India in October 1992, becoming the first Hindi satellite channel. This channel formerly had a partnership with STAR TV. However, STAR ended their partnership with ZEE TV (now ZEE Telefilms, Ltd.) when Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation acquired STAR TV. Zee TV was launched in the UK in 1995, replacing TV Asia (which still broadcasts in the United States). Zee TV was launched in the USA in 1998.

CNN-IBN is an English language Indian TV news channel. The network is a partnership between Global Broadcast News (GBN) and Turner International (Turner) in India. Rajdeep Sardesai is the Editor-in-Chief of the network. CNN-IBN is known as Fox News of India because of its tabloid journalism. The Indian company GBN runs the channel completely but uses the CNN brand name and in-return giving Time Warner a 26% stake. The network broadcasts 24 hours a day. The network models most of its programming similar to that of CNN in the United States, with current event talk programs mixed with news reports. The flagship evening program, India at 9, is usually broadcast daily on CNN Pipeline, although is not simulcasted (except during breaking news events, such as the 11 July 2006 Mumbai train bombings). It is one of the first news channel in India to have the concept of "Citizen Journalist" where any person can send in his report to the channel which is aired in a separate section.

“The new strategy is to draw more eyeballs by strengthening our week days. When majority of channels beam serials during the prime-time band, Vijay has decided to focus on film-based programmes from Monday to Thursday every week,” said Mr Pradeep Milroy, Vice-President, Programming, Star Vijay.

Starting from October 29, the channel will beam four different shows under the banner ‘Night Show’ during week days. On Mondays, it will be Arindhadhum Ariyadhadhum, an up-close and personal interview of leading film stars. On Tuesdays, Cinema Kaaram Coffee, a chat show with film industry gossips. Wednesdays will have Reel Pathi, Real Pathi, a talk show with Kollywood news; and on Thursdays, it will be Madan’s Thirai Paarvai, which is packed with film reviews and interviews with film crew.

The channel has already roped in sponsors for all these programmes.

According to Mr Milroy, the channel, at present, enjoys top viewership during weekends with its dance show Jodi No 1 being the flagship programme. “We are also planning to strengthen our weekend programming even further with more talk shows and reality shows,” he added.

When majority of regional channels bank on films and a lot of serials, Vijay TV bets big on reality shows, and “that’s our strength”, he said.
